Our Story
The Genesis of Terrasow
Terrasow was born from a simple yet powerful insight: modern agriculture generates enormous amounts of data, but farmers lack the tools to transform this data into actionable intelligence.
CV Labs was founded in 2020 by serial entrepreneur and technologist Shawn Cutter to immerse the company in live agri-business. Shawn and his family invested in upgrading one of their aging dairy farms into a modern, regenerative, and sustainable operation, providing a real-world testing ground for agricultural technology solutions.
The name “Terrasow” combines “Terra” (earth) and “Sow” (to plant seeds), reflecting our commitment to nurturing the relationship between technology and agriculture. Just as farmers sow seeds in the earth, we’re sowing the seeds of technological innovation in the agricultural landscape.
Our Journey
The journey began with an ambitious vision to revolutionize agriculture through technology and sustainability, initially focusing on hemp cultivation on a family farm. However, when the anticipated market for hemp didn’t materialize as expected, this setback became a profound learning experience that highlighted the importance of market readiness and the need for a flexible approach in the dynamic agricultural sector.
Realizing the necessity to pivot, Terrasow broadened its scope beyond hemp to develop a comprehensive agricultural management platform that could benefit farmers across various crops. This strategic shift was driven by a commitment to addressing broader agricultural challenges and leveraging technological expertise to support diverse farming needs.
The strategic pivot was significantly bolstered by forming a leadership team with proven experience in building successful technology platforms. Together, they developed the core concept for what would become the Terrasow platform: a unified system that would integrate data from multiple sources, apply advanced analytics and AI, and deliver actionable insights directly to farmers.
By 2025, Terrasow had expanded to support multiple crop types, with specialized solutions for high-value crops like sugarcane, where our technology’s ability to provide sub-field level visibility and optimize complex processes has proven particularly valuable.

Shawn Cutter
Founder & Chief Executive Officer
Shawn brings extensive experience in technology entrepreneurship and agriculture to Terrasow. With deep roots in farming from his childhood on a family farm, Shawn uniquely understands farmers’ struggles firsthand. After his father’s passing, he took on the responsibility of managing the family farm, experiencing the challenges of modern agriculture. Before founding Terrasow, Shawn successfully led Fielding Systems, a real-time cloud platform for the oil & gas sector that revolutionized how field operators tracked production, equipment status, and safety metrics. His combination of agricultural roots and technological expertise makes him the ideal leader for Terrasow, driven by a genuine passion for solving the real-world problems facing today’s farmers.
Ben Marte
Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer
Ben is the technical visionary behind Terrasow’s platform architecture. With extensive experience in developing scalable architecture and hands-on building expertise in UX/UI, engineering, and security, Ben has designed a system that seamlessly connects diverse data sources and transforms them into actionable intelligence. Ben’s journey with Shawn began when he joined Fielding Systems, where his expertise in developing scalable architecture provided the foundation for the company’s success in handling massive data volumes from distributed field operations. His experience bridging the gap between technical capabilities and practical field requirements makes him invaluable for translating complex user needs into functional technology for farmers.
Jeff LaFavors
Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer
Jeff leads Terrasow’s product strategy and operations, bringing extensive experience in Agile development, big data, machine learning, and enterprise application development. Jeff met Shawn shortly after college while doing consulting work and later rejoined him in 2013 when Shawn was scaling Fielding Systems. Jeff contributed significantly to Fielding’s operational success, focusing on process improvements, strategic planning, and eventually seeing the company through an acquisition. His methodical approach to operations and ability to create efficient processes ensures that Terrasow’s sophisticated technology translates into intuitive tools that farmers can easily incorporate into their daily operations.
